イスラエル工科大学（テクニオン）は、6月11日に内外の6名に対して、2018年の名誉フェローシップを授与した（Honorary Fellowships 2018）。

今年の受賞者は、日本から藤原洋博士（Dr. Hiroshi Fujiwara インターネット総合研究所代表取締役）、イスラエルのモシェ・マロム博士（Dr. Moshe Marom）、イスラエルのロナ・ラモン氏（Rona Ramon）、米国からマーティン＆グレイス・ロスマン博士（Dr. Martin and Grace Rosman）と レ・セスキン氏（Les Seskin）の計6名。受賞式典はテクニオンの年次総会初日に行われ、テクニオンのプレジデントが各受賞者に証書を手渡した。それぞれの受賞理由は以下の通り。

Dr. Hiroshi Fujiwara：イスラエル日本間のポジティブな関係構築と学術協力へのビジョン、テクニオン及びイスラエルへの支援。

In acknowledement of your leadership in the field of internet and communications in Japan; in tribute to your vision in pioneering positive relations and academic collaborations between Israel and Japan: and in gratitude for your generous support of the Technion and through it, the State of Israel.

Dr. Moshe Marom：中国広東省汕頭市におけるテクニオンキャンパス開設への貢献。

In acknowledement of your outstanding efforts and major contributions to the establishment of the Technion campus in the city of Shantou, Guangdong Province, China; in appreciation for your leadership and management in overcoming many challenges and ensuring the timely completion of your mission.

Rona Ramon：イスラエルにおける青少年の教育活動及び宇宙産業への貢献。

In recognition of your public activity in the field of education and the promotion of youth and children in Israel; in acknowledgement of your significant contributions to the Israeli space industry and the encouragement of scinece and space studies; and in appreciation for your outstanding leadership and dedication to Israeli society and the State of Israel.

Dr. Martin and Grace Rosman：テクニオンとイスラエルへの長年のコミットメントと、テクニオンの学生、教員、世界への貢献活動に対する支援。

In gratitude for your strong and longstanding committment to the Technion and Israeli; in gratitude for your support, which has helped the Technion attract and retain the best and brightest faculty and students; and with admiration for your deep understanding of the Technion's vital role in the future of Israel andits contribution to the world.

Les Seskin：アメリカにおけるテクニオン・ソサエティでのリーダシップ、テクニオンへの支援、そしてイスラエルの福祉に対するコミットメント。

In admiration for your inspiring achievements throughout your career in your community and in your philanthoropy; i tribute to your leadership in the American Technion Society; and with gratitude for your exemplary support of the Technion; and your commitment to Israel's welfare.

藤原博士はテクニオンのサイバーセキュリティー研究センターに寄付をしており、日本とイスラエルの様々な協力関係の促進を目指している。その功績もあり、日本人として初めての受賞となった。同氏はスピーチの中で次のように述べた。

「私は若いときは天体物理学者になることを夢見ていました。その後コンピュータサイエンスの研究開発に魅力を感じていましたが、最近は起業家として活動しており、これもまた今後変わる可能性があります。テクニオンも、世界の変化に対応して常に変わろうとしています。世界は今、多くの新しい挑戦に直面しています。私はテクニオンがそれらの挑戦に立ち向かい、ティクン・オラム（Tikkun Olam）を追求する術（すべ）を知っていると信じています」。

同氏の発言にあるTikkun Olamとは、ユダヤ教の概念で、文字通りには「世界の修復」という意味だが、建設的かつ有益な行動で世界全体を良いものにして行こう、というような概念とされ、イスラエルでの学習や行動の指針となっている。
